Diving For Lunch

Brown Pelican. St Petersburg, FL April, 2019
Bird in Flight photography is new for me, and quite challenging even with a large bird like this Brown Pelican.

I spent about 5 hours over two days photographing these pelicans. After several hours, I began to notice fine details of their flight habits, including a slight head turn that occurred just before they banked and dove for their lunch. This helped me know when to press the shutter to start my 9 frame per second photo sequence while trying to keep the bird properly framed in their dive.

Out of hundreds of photographs, one really stood out. I am very pleased to present Diving for Lunch and show the details of these impressive birds mid flight.

Custom sizes on aluminum, archival photographic paper, or archival canvas with a 1.5" stretcher bar are also available. Email me at [email protected] to discuss what best meets your needs.
